Isotretinoin and Hair Loss - Balding BlogAbout Contact Archives Videos Events Hair TransplantI had a bad case of acne earlier due to which i had to resort to Isotretinoin treatment. now wherever i ve read it says that alopecia is a known complication even after discontinuing isotretinoin therapy and i have been experiencing the same. i have a strong family history of baldness and am experiencing an increasing low hair density with slight temporal baldness for the past 8 months or so. i even had to shift to a new city and have noticed hair fall only after that. see any connection? Also could you advise me a suitable solution to the Isotretinoin complication?Isotretinoin is a medication used mostly for cystic acne, however, it is also employed for a number of cancers and a few severe skin conditions. It was first developed to be used as a chemotherapy medication for the treatment of brain cancer, pancreatic cancer, and other cancers. It is still used in the treatment of these cancers because of its ability to kill rapidly dividing cells. Its effects are systemic and nonselective. In some cases, it is used to treat harlequin-type ichthyosis, a usually lethal skin disease, and lamellar ichthyosis. It is a retinoid, meaning it derives from vitamin A, and is found in small quantities naturally in the body.Since 1 March 2006, the dispensing of isotretinoin in the United States has been controlled by an FDA-mandated website called iPLEDGE – dermatologists are required to register their patients before prescribing and pharmacists are required to check the website before dispensing the drug. The prescription may not be dispensed until both parties have complied. A physician may not prescribe more than a 30-day supply. A new prescription may not be written for at least 30 days. Pharmacies are also under similar restriction. There is also a seven-day window between the time the prescription is written and the time the medication must be picked up at the pharmacy. If the original prescription is lost, or pick-up window is missed, the patient must requalify to have another prescription written. Doctors and pharmacists must also verify written prescriptions in an online system before patients may fill the prescription. Due to its teratogenic effects, women with the potential to bear children must commit to the use of two forms of contraception simultaneously for the duration of isotretinoin therapy, as well as for the month immediately preceding and the month immediately following therapy.Does isotretinoin cause hair loss? - Yahoo! Answers Arts Humanities I m about to start treatment for acne using Isotretinoin, but I ve been a bit put off by all of the rumors surrounding the drug. Also, one side-effect I know for sure is that it causes skin to dry out. On average how bad is this? Does it become so dry that it s unbearably irritable, and can a woman still wear makeup, or will the dryness make it impossible? Thankyou to anybody that replies. Isotretinoin and Hair Loss - Balding BlogAbout Contact Archives Videos Events Hair TransplantHello! I am a 24 year old female who is experiencing hair loss from isotretinoin, and was wondering what I can possibly do to help my hair stop falling out. I ve been of the medication for a month now, and my hair started falling out about 2 months ago. I ve now lost about half of my hair, and I m really worried because it hasn t slowed! My dermatoligist said there s nothing that can be done except wait it out. I also know how freakish it s going to look when it starts coming back in. I had long, blond, thick hair and now it s so thin and starting to be noticeable. I tried Rogaine- used 4 bottles in 3 weeks and it didn t seem to help. I just bought Nioxin shampoo/conditioner to try- I am desperate! Is there anything I can do- vitamins I can take, treatments, shampoo- that will help? Thank you so much!Hello! I am a 43-year old female who is at the breaking point due to extreme hair loss/thinning. I was diagnosed with lupus 2 years ago and have been getting kenalog 40 injections every 6 weeks since being diagnosed. I have been taking sinemet for restless leg syndrome for about a year. I completed 6 months of accutane in Feb. 07 and, also, in Feb., I had my hair chemically processed 6 times in a 10-hour period. Now my hair which was incredibly THICK and healthy has been falling out in massive amounts! I can see my scalp! Washing my hair has become traumatic because of the incredible amounts of hair that come out. My lupus doctor assures me that neither the kenalog 40 or the sinement is causing the hair loss. My dermatologist agrees but doesn t think it s caused by the accutane either. I recently had blood work done and everything looked normal.
